This idea was inspired by one of the wonderful gals in my writers group. I’ll update this page more as they move through me
i want to write about
the way the midmorning sun shines on the big tree in the backyard
i want to capture this moment
the spots where lichen glow on the greybrown bark
how young branches sprout from whence hewn the old
but a birdshit screen mars the view
maybe seeing it outside would be better
but then i wouldn’t be seeing from my new bed
in my new room
wrapped in the old sheets
that once wrapped us
maybe i want to capture this moment
because you would see it just like i do
if only you were here
in bed
with me
again
you would understand why
i want to write about
the way the midmorning sun shines on the big tree in the backyard
greetings to you, Anxiety
come here & sit right next to me
you as well, my old friend, Fear
welcome, Depression;
i’m glad you’re here
Discomfort abounds
Despair breaks thru
what do you want? what should i do?
tell me, my demons
what will you teach?
what great lesson
is just out of reach?
(i hate that line)
thank you, Doubt
come & sit, too
let’s all work this out
Sadness! hello
i’m glad that you’re back
you’re all so helpful
like a heart attack
i don’t love that last line
my skin bristles
i’m cold
will you still visit
when i’ve grown old?
or will you move on
like days got away
while nighttime stars become
the lessons you gave
this moment won’t last
in fact, none do
is that what i’m supposed to learn from you? –
what? you’re all leaving?
but i’ve just poured the tea
no matter
i’ll warm it again
when you next visit me
