When I present my poetry and haiku, I like to arrange them in a way that forms a narrative, even if the individual entries had different inspiration – which they often do. Structure makes the world go ’round, or something!
Here’s some poetry and haiku about beginnings – when eyes first meet and hearts start to beat.
1
under a blanket
dreaming
wishing i had
you
whoever you are
2
a smile
shared with a stranger
can mean so much
to a quarantined
heart
3
hair burning in the day
smile bedims the sun –
the first time i saw you
4
the way your brown eyes
caught the flash of the disco ball
lit up my heart
5
make everything stop
so i can explore
the galaxies
in your eyes
6
when you smile
your eyes shine brighter than dawn
like they’re seeing your future
7
the way your mouth curls
and your body feels the music
leaves me breath
less
8
your lips look like
they taste like summer
kiss me
and keep me warm
til then
9
hoisting you up
with the music
you said
you fell –
it only takes a moment
10
under edison bulb’s glow
you smiled
saying
mysteriously kind
11
speak again
how our stars align
as constellations swirl
in your eyes
12
april eyes
effulgent smile
everything changed when you opened the door
13
truth told with a smirk
dark eyes don’t hide your intent
eager hands groping
14
copper skin
glows in winter
melts with my hands
as i explore new parts
15
i’ve kissed your neck before –
your soft skin reminds me
of past lives we’ve shared
16
rounding your thigh’s curve
for the first time
my finger remembered the route
17
words whispered before dawn
landing in new ears
painting the void
with you
18
how lucky your lungs
that they get to be near to your heart
breathe deeply
19
it’s uncomfortable how comfortable
you make me
but this is inside me
i can feel
any thing
you just make it easier to feel
every thing
